Blue Ridge’s Freeway brings together people with specific needs with those in our body who can fill those needs with the love of Christ. Here’s the story of one young woman who recently saw God’s hand through Freeway.
A few months ago, my washing machine broke. I received that washer and my current dryer through the FreeWay last year and was not in a position to replace it. So, I looked over my budget and determined that I should be able to purchase a decent used one around Christmas time. Then, I had the thought, "I wonder if I should post the need on Freeway.... I can afford it on my own eventually, but I can't right now. Someone might have purchased a new washer and are looking for someone to give their old washer to." So, I posted the need and said a prayer, asking God to provide for the need.
I'm a visual person, so often when I'm praying, I visualize what I'm praying. On this occasion, I pictured an old, barely running (but running!) washing machine. Even if it was a hand-crank machine, it would have been better than nothing. So, that's what I asked God for.
Two days later, I got a message from a married couple that I know from BRCC. They asked if I still needed a washer and then let me know that they wanted to purchase a new one for me. A NEW ONE.
They gave me a modest price range and a link to Lowe’s. They said to pick out one, and they would have it delivered that weekend. I picked one out with the best reviews and then when they went in, that wasn't available so Lowe’s upgraded. The machine is so fancy I named her Jackie Onassis.
Anyways, once I got over the shock and processed everything, I felt that God used this to show me how low of a bar I set for Him. He is the Creator of the Universe, and I limit my requests for him to a hand-crank washing machine, when He (clearly) is able to provide a brand-spanking-new machine. So, I felt challenged to change how I pray. To remember what God has done and to stop praying for something I could do myself, or man can do... and start praying for impossible things
He reminded me of the story of Gideon and how God used just 300 of Gideon's people to free them from the hands of the Midianites and Amorites. God used Gideon and his people to do an impossible thing. Gideon would have never guess that God would deliver them like that. Because God is capable of much more than we can ask or imagine. So, He's been challenging me to pray for impossible things — things that are beyond my imagination.
So, thanks for what the FreeWay does. This washing machine helped unlock a part of my heart that God now has access to.
