Blue Ridge began its quest to be a church for today by looking at the very first church, found in Acts 2.

Dan Posid, who has called Blue Ridge home for 16 years, felt God laying the Scripture found in Acts 2 on his heart in a new way about five years ago. Verses 44 and 45, which show how “all the believers were together and had everything in common,” brought to mind a new concept, something eventually named Freeway.

“When we think of giving, most of us first think of money or maybe food. We don't always think of a microwave or a dresser, but there's no reason we shouldn't,” Dan said.

As Dan looked around and saw the wealth of stuff being sold at yard sales, he wondered if those within the Body might have need of these things.

He said, "If I wanted to bless someone with an item rather than make a few dollars off of it, I wouldn't necessarily know where to go. We didn't have a tool for communicating people's needs for tangible items to the Body."

Freeway expanded on this idea by creating a place online where people could post their needs for particular items. Freeway seeks to connect people with needs with those who can help meet those needs. Posts are now made online and shared through social media.

Posts have been as varied as a car and a crib. Though Dan rarely knows the outcome of such postings, it is his prayer and that of the church, that God would use this venue to supply goods and share the love of Christ.

Dan and his wife Amanda have personally donated items from their home and have even shopped yard sales to answer needs.

“It’s encouraging because people are always excited to see a need met,” he said.

He’d love to see God give this vision to more people. Pray about it! Check out Freeway before you hit your next yard sale. Perhaps God will show you the perfect way to bless someone.
