David Michon had been serving at Blue Ridge three years with the worship team when Worship Pastor Todd Foster talked to him about leading the team in Bedford.
“Recently we've been praying for direction and clarity about Bedford and where God wants us to serve. He's definitely given us that clarity in a crazy way,” David said.
However, the path was not instantly apparent.
David and his wife had attended a prayer walk and spent time in prayer about David becoming the Bedford worship leader, but they didn’t feel God leading them there. Instead, they began pursuing a move to North Carolina, and even had a church and job prospects there.
Then one morning, David began experiencing paralysis. “Things were very difficult that aren't normally very difficult.”
He couldn't play his instrument or even lift his computer.
He went to a clinic that sent him straight to the Emergency Department.
“Whatever is happening is happening very fast,” they told him.
After four days of tests, David was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome — his immune system was attacking his nerves. After two more days of treatment, he was told it could take days to weeks to months to years to recover.
“I actually got better really fast. I was walking again after two days and fully functional within five to six days.”
Now, the Michons could get their lives back on track, which meant preparing to move.
“Me and my wife both said, ‘I don't think we're supposed to move anymore,” David said. “It caused us to appreciate the body God had put around us.”
David accepted the new position leading worship in Bedford.
“I'm extremely excited God used this whole entire situation to give me some clarity on where He wanted me to serve.”
